Sweatshop

Description – Manage a sweatshop by obtaining and managing workers, stealing items from other sweatshops and by murdering the competition. Avoid getting busted and beat your workers if you need to, you have a deadline to meet.

Goal – The goal of the game is to be the first obtain 10 items by forcing your workers to create them or by stealing them from other players. This game can be 2-5 players.

Play – Start the game by dealing all the cards as evenly as possible to all the players. Each round starts with each player placing a card they wish to play face down onto the table and rolling their 10 sided die. Highest roller flips over their card first and the rotation always goes clockwise. (If players tie, they re-roll)

Round – A round is completed when all players have taken their turn.

Workers – Workers will make items each round they are in play. They will not make items the first round they are in play. Elderly workers make 1 item per round and die after 3 rounds, the round in which they come into play is does not count toward that total. Tweeker workers make 2 items per turn and cause the player to lose 1 item the turn they are placed into play. Child workers make 1 item per round.

Kidnap Workers – This card allows you to steal any worker that is currently in play. The items they produce this round still go to the original owner of the worker.

Murder Workers – This card allows you to remove from play any worker that is currently in play. The items they produce this round still go to the owner.

Double Production – This card doubles the amount of items your workers produce this next round.

Steal – This card allows you to steal 2 item points from any player you wish.

Busted – This card removes from play all the child workers from any player of your choice.

[Designer Notes] – I thought this game was actually pretty funny. I’m not entirely sure why but it seems to be a silly take on a serious issue. It is a pretty simple game inspired by the simple mechanics of the marvelous game of “Sissy Fight”. Then I decided that it didn’t really work well without a turn rotation. Which leads me to why I introduced 5 d10s. This randomizes the turn rotation so that it is possible for each round to have a different start and end of the rotation.

I spent a decent amount of time on this game. It isn’t the greatest idea but I probably would have gotten closer to my 10 game goal if all my games took me as long as this one did.

Sweatshops are bad, don’t open them and if you do please don’t kidnap, murder or beat your workers so they work faster. But it is completely fine to get busted by the police.
