Yes, Bullshit with a capital B.
Do you realize of all the elected government representatives there are only a handful of decent humans serving. You’d think that stand-up decent individuals are in high demand for this field. Or maybe they enter the political realm wanting to do good and the right thing and end up being corrupted by power and money. It kind of makes me want to toss out my game design career goals and become a career politician. I could study law or political science and maybe try to end my hatred for public speaking and try to uphold the constitution instead of forcing this country down the road of Communism or Fascism. Take your pick, thats the direction we are going. What the fuck is wrong? Is it because everyone is ignorant of the situation or because everyone is dumb? Honestly I think it is both. But it isn’t the people’s fault education sucks ass. Not that anyone seem to care that the intelligence level of this country is plummeting, well anyone besides Ron Paul and Barrack Obama. And I commend Obama for making it one of his key issues but his idea is just fucking dumb to state it clearly. He wants to spend more money on Education and likely will raise taxes to gain that money. Maybe he will keep the taxes they same and keep the debt growing. Either way it is something we’ve tried before and we’ve already discovered it doesn’t work. The Federal government sucks, whatever it touches turns to shit or dies (see Iraq, the Constitution, Crime Rates, Drug Abuse Trends, or anything they are involved with). Many people tell me the definition of insane is to do the same numerous times expecting different results. By this definition given to me everyone, besides Ron Paul, that is currently running for President is absolutely insane. They know these ideas don’t work they just try to package it nicely and present it to you so you vote for them. They do not care about you, they just want your money and they want your vote. They could honestly care less if you are poor, homeless, suffering, sick or safe. Government always wants more power, read some history and tell me it isn’t true. There is a set pattern here and it keeps repeating itself over and over and over again. Are you all blind or do you just not want to accept the truth? Do you really want a politician that is going to do the same shit over and over again? Are you really that distracted by the ethnicity or gender of a candidate? What everyone should be looking into is the voting record and history behind each candidate and look for consistency then look to see if you like their message. Everyone, except for Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, is drastically inconsistent with what they say and what they do. Why would you trust that all these individuals will all the sudden change when you elect them President? Sorry, I don’t think they will. Actually it is rather safe to say I know they won’t change their inconsistent trend. Of course it probably won’t be the complete 180 George W. Bush pulled but I promise you it wont be anywhere close to being consistent. Please do some research before you vote.
As lame as it sounds, go through what our government has done recently at http://www.govtrack.us/
Just go through it, hell go back a few years and go through it. Please sit in front of your computer for a month without eating or bathing and read everything. If you start seeing patterns you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

You can’t blame politicians for a 98% incumbent-reelection rate. You can’t blame politicians for anything, actually, since we choose to hire or fire them at regular intervals. It’s up to us to govern our government. We must choose it.

I have a very hard time blaming the people for being mislead by dishonest politicians. I do concede that many people are easily fooled and tend to eat up false information. However, I can not bring myself to blame them instead of the actual source of the problem at hand. Consider if politicians didn’t mislead the public and were all honest strait-shooters. I imagine it would force the voter to use their critical thinking skills to discover their position on said issue. Instead they use manipulative language and at times even absolutely dishonest statements to assure the voter that they are the answer to all of their problems.
Of course I believe there are other sources that enhance this issue such as mass media. I’m not for censoring media or having government regulation of media but I do wish the media could retain even a fragment of integrity. More than any other entity the media tends to endorse a two party system. Perhaps it is because they understand the power it holds to the viewer. Its easier to consume a competition that is 1 vs 1 instead of a mass free for all. You’re a Libertarian candidate for Governor in Indiana so I’m certain you understand how Republicans and Democrats parties receive a disproportionate amount of media coverage in comparison to the Libertarian, Constitution, and Green party. There are a large selection of other options and until you actually see the ballot many will not even understand that. Perhaps certain parties won’t even attain access to the ballot so it is possible that some voters will be completely ignorant on the existence of a 3rd, 4th and 5th option(and beyond).
In summary I don’t believe the voter is to blame but rather the election system set in place, politicians and media sources. I believe it is extremely important for the voters to be provided with a fair amount of information for each party and independent candidate. Access to the ballot has to be made easier and the system has to be improved upon in various areas. The percentage of voters that actually vote are extremely low and I don’t think they are to blame. Its not a secret that there are some serious flaws with the system. Why would anyone want to take part in a broken election process? I do but that is just because I’ve taken the time to read and do research.
Before anything will improve in a true and honest fashion the election process has to under go reformation to assure every vote is counted and every legal candidate can have access to the public eye and the ballot. If this happens I predict that the media will slowly begin to recognize the existence of various parties and begin to include them in their polls and voter research.
